Castles and Parish Churches along the Via Francigena, from Monte Bordone to the Chiesaccia

Many archaeological excavations have proven that the area must have hosted a Metal-Age settlement, as is also proven by the statues-steles that have been found near the Parish church, then a Roman settlement also inhabited in Byzantine and Lombard times, before the erection, in the Middle Ages, of the wonderful Parish church of Sorano which has at last been restored.
You are at a junction of the Via Francigena, a meeting place, with side streets to Lucca (Via del Volto Santo) and to the Genoese west.
