The Tuscan-Emilian Appennine National Park in MTB
Discovering an extraordinary naturalistic setting
Discovering an extraordinary naturalistic setting
Route description
From Pontremoli take state road SS 62 della Cisa toward Parma to the built-up area of Mignegno. Here, the road begins to climb to the fork with provincial road SP 42 del Passo del Cirone then an up-and-down stretch takes you to the Molinello locality. Follow the road signs for the Cirone pass until you come to the fork for Logarghena. The road now passes through Versola, Toplecca di sotto, Toplecca di sopra and La Piagna, where the blacktop ends and an unpaved stretch begins.
The slope gets steeper; after about 4 km, take the turnoff for the Enrico Mattei Refuge with its marvelous panoramic view of the mountains. Return down the same way, turning left at the fork, to the blacktop road. Pedaling downhill, you come first to Serravalle, and then, after another 2.2 km, to Caprio. At the fork, follow SS 62 “della Cisa” back to Pontremoli.
Places of interest
The beauty of this itinerary to the Prati di Logarghena upland meadows in the extraordinary naturalistic setting of the Tuscan-Emilian Appennine National Park, includes characteristic rural settlements, stone bridges, torrents, and sweeping pastures, crowned by the Appennine peaks, that in May are cloaked in a white mantle of flowering jonquils and the delicate inflorescences of purple orchids.
We recommend stops at the medieval towns of Caprio, Ponticello, and Filattiera, and another to admire the 15th-cenetury architectural complex of the Santissima Annunziata, near Pontremoli.
